Our NYC Staycation – Road Trips Part 1

We have been living in a real house the past 4 days! We are staying in our friend Carlijn’s apartment this week. She is staying in a friend’s apartment not too far from us. So we are all on staycation.

The last time we did not sleep onboard Spacegrazer was one and a half years ago. The kids think that there is nothing better than to live like normal people! We are really enjoying it too. Everyone needs a change of scenery now and again.

We have been spending our time lounging around the apartment – enjoying unlimited WiFi, water, power, and being able to just walk out the door. No need for a dinghy!

We have also been roadtripping! We borrowed Carlijn’s car and took it for a spin. We did not venture very far. There’s plenty to do in the area.

Trip 1: New Jersey

Our first little trip took us to a park in New Jersey. On the way there, driving along the New Jersey Turnpike, we could not get the soundtrack to the Sopranos out of our heads…

The park was awesome. We started at the playground, then walked around the lake. The kids spotted small turtles, squirrels and chipmunks. They wondered whether the turtles would grow bigger. They are used to seeing big sea turtles…

Trip 2: Queens

Our second trip took us to Queens. We went there to visit the New York Hall of Science. It’s a large science museum. The kids love science museums, especially if they lots of interactive stuff. This museum did not disappoint.

We enjoyed the hall of mirrors, the coloured shadow wall, and design area. The kids loved the hall with interactive video walls. They could make plants grow and manipulate the “world” by movement. It was like being inside a video game.

On the way home we had the chance to experience NYC’s Friday afternoon traffic. Good times!
