Rum runners in Arucas

Anchored in Las Palmas – Gran Canaria

After catching up on sleep in a small bay just off Graciosa Island near Lanzarote, we decided to leave the next morning for Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria.

Reuniting with friends

We knew that our friends on sailing vessels Mrs. Chippy and Boag were already in Las Palmas and we were looking forward took catching up with them.

The day we arrived, we all got together for dinner on Mrs. Chippy and decided to go on a trip to the town of Arucas the next day.

Next morning we took the local bus, with ten kids in tow. The kids occupied three rows in the back of the bus and had a blast.

Rummy Club

Arucas is a pretty little town with a beautiful cathedral and… a rum distillery! So after exploring the town we headed over to take a tour there.

We were worried that the kids may not be allowed inside the distillery, but they were and they went for free. The tour was really interesting, going along the oak barrels -which smelled great!- and the bottling factory. But off course the highlight was the tasting at the end! Our tour guide left us at an open bar with 18 bottles of different flavours rum and a stack of shot glasses…

Needless to say, we had a good sampling, then bought some bottles. The ride back on the bus was fun, with the grown-ups being more rowdy than the children this time 🙂
