Blowing off Steam in Alcudia

Alcudia 6

Fun on the Bus

Today we finally took the bus from Pollensa to the neighbouring town of Alcudia. The kids still get quite excited about public transportation so the bus ride was almost an outing itself. Feet went off and on the seats, stop buttons were pressed for each stop, multiple times, just in case…

Alcudia has a pretty medieval old town, surrounded by fortified walls that you can walk along. It happened to be market day, a thing I used to love BC (Before Children). I do not love markets so much now with young kids running off and disappearing  into the crowds… So after fuelling up on coffees and chocolate pastries at the local pastelería, we guided our little crew towards the old city walls.

Walking the Walls

After I assured Beau that this walk would be much shorter than the wall walk in Dubrovnik, he agreed to climb the steps. The views were lovely and the kids didn’t complain.

Coming down the wall we noticed an amphitheatre with a café and decided to check it out. It advertised flamenco shows on big posters outside. Once inside, we saw posters of bull fights and a bull’s head decorating one of the walls. The kids were fascinated by it, and horrified when we told them that it was a real head, stuffed. They decided that bull fights are unfair because the matador has weapons and can take shelter behind a wall. I cannot really argue with that.

On the way back, Kai fell asleep on the bus. Proof of a successful outing.
