We have been in the Cayman Islands for a few weeks now. On December 31, we arrived in the main town of Georgetown to check into the country. Since it was New Year´s Eve, and nearly the end of the working day, the staff was keen to check us in quickly and get out of the office to party! The check-in process was quick and easy, and free! We did not pay anything for visas or boat clearance. Awesome.
Trying to Stay Awake for 2020
Since it was NYE, we promised the kids they could stay up until midnight. We quickly came to regret this decision, since both of us struggled to stay awake… We had done an overnight sail from Cuba the night before, so we were tired. Max and I take turns keeping 3-hour watches at night, so someone is always up to make sure we´re safe. Strangely, we usually get more tired from a one-night passage, than from a multiple nights´ sail. I guess it takes a couple of days before your body gets used to sleeping for shorter periods.
To keep ourselves awake, we watched some movies together. At midnight, fireworks went up all along the island. Being on the water, we had a fantastic view and were glad to be awake. After about 15 minutes, we sent everyone to bed.
Cruise Ships Playground
Georgetown is a real cruise ship hub. The cruise ships all anchored right behind us while we were on a mooring ball in Georgetown. The most we saw at one time was seven. Pretty impressive. When the cruise ships passengers are in town, it´s busy, which is pretty much for a few hours every day. So Georgetown is busy, touristy, and expensive. Yet we are really enjoying our time here. I guess that is because it´s also safe, easy to find stuff, and the people are very friendly. The beautiful beaches and stunning colours of the sea help too.

We started a new ritual: Poetry Teatime. Once a week, we have afternoon tea together with sweet treats and we read each other poems (or jokes, or both) 
The public library! We love it for its books, AC, and free WiFi…
