Croatia has been a real adventure. We saw a lot of amazing things and got visits from family and friends which made it extra special.
How do we compare it to other places we’ve seen? Bianca and I have been trying to sum it up. Perhaps we got spoilt in Greece with the ease and the laid-backness of it all. Our impression was that, although very beautiful, Croatia wasn’t somehow as ‘relaxing’ as Greece. Perhaps it was the hefty tax at the beginning, or the fact that in order to see some towns, you’re obliged to pay for mooring buoys, and on a couple of occasions we were asked to pay to anchor. We knew all of this up front, so we knew what we were getting ourselves in for.
The people were generally very friendly and spoke excellent English. It’s obviously a country that’s done a lot to promote tourism. So much so, that I hear that Croatians are priced out of the coastal areas for holiday destinations. We managed to get by quite cheaply by anchoring out and not eating out too much.
Are we glad we came? Definitely. It was on the bucket list, and I would have always been left wondering. The highlights for us were probably Krka National Park Waterfalls and Dubrovnik. And although I am in no way a football fan, it was pretty special watching the atmosphere as Croatia played in their first ever World Cup football final.
too much brother
