Sandy Island is an amazing little spot, just off the larger island of Carriacou. We arrived late in the afternoon from Grenada and our friends from Boag, Mrs. Chippy and Nikau were already there. Paul helped us tie to the mooring ball (our bow is so high above the waterline that we find it really hard to do unassisted…), and we were ready to go ashore.
Sandy Island really is just a small beach with some palm trees sticking up out of a beautiful turquoise stretch of sea. We beached the dinghy and went ashore as the sun was setting. This is the time that all the hermit crabs were out, and we even saw a big crayfish sauntering along the shore.
We made a fire and had a BBQ together with our friends. Everyone had brought some food and drinks. The kids foraged around for sticks so they could ‘bake’ their own damper breads, and after dinner they used them to cook marshmallows.
The next morning we returned for some fun in the sun. We flew our kites, swam and snorkeled. I loved this little place so much!
Our friends on Nikau made an awesome video of this part of our trip. Watch it here on their YouTube channel.
