Painting the Town…
We met up in Tunis with our friends Jasper and Kylie from sailboat Boag with their kids Leon and Ruby for some city fun! The day started at the Belvedere Park with its lovely tea house by the lake, and the zoo! Our kids had only been to a zoo when they were very little, and none of them remember it so they were very excited.
Doing the rounds along the different animal, we felt sorry for the brown bears. They were down in a deep pool that was filled with (plastic) litter. We admired the monkeys when they caught the peanuts that some other zoo visitor threw in midair. The kids’ favourites were the porcupines! They loved feeding them the big leaves from a nearby ficus tree and listening to the porcupines nibbling away at them. Dropping leaves onto their backs to try to skewer them on the quills was fun too!
How Bazaar
I read somewhere that every detour in Tunisia ends in a carpet shop. Still, we followed the friendly guy who took us through the maze of alleyways in the old bazaar with an open mind. He had promised us the best view in Tunis and it did not disappoint. After weaving our way through our guide’s father’s impressive carpet shop (yes!) we went up a few flights of stairs and found ourselves in the middle of a sea of rooftops. Many of them were lavishly decorated with arches and mosaics. It was gorgeous, and well worth the gentle nudging towards this carpet and that carpet on our way out. Our guide even helped us find our way back out of the bazaar.
Lovely, but like you said, poor bears?
