Venice “La Serenissima”

We left Venice this morning after a wonderful stay. The thing that really surprised me is how many calm, green places Venice has. Yes, the city itself is crazy busy – packed with tourists, pushing their way through the narrow alleys and canals. But just a few hundred meters from Saint Mark’s, there are quiet neighbourhoods and friendly parks. Tranquil little islands are just a short ride on the water taxi (vaporetto) away.

We had Spacegrazer moored at the marina on Certosa Island. It’s a lovely green spot with plenty of trees with swings, picnic spots on lush green lawns, and places to play hide and seek!

Venice was nicknamed La Serenissima, ‘the most serene’. It referred to both Venice’s peaceful setting in this beautiful lagoon, as well as its ability to stay out of or withstand all sorts of political turmoil going on around it. Even today, Venice still has a serene charm to it!
Best book exchange spot I have ever seen!
