Slowing Down in Slovenia

Since we’ve been in Slovenia we’ve been at anchor for three nights and have done a lot of nothing much. Sometimes it feels difficult to slow down. Right now though, we aren’t having too much of a guilt-complex about it. I did manage to cut the boys hair, and we did go to the shore once. Nudity seems to be a big thing here. So when in Rome. Too much information?

Our routine seems to be breakfast, school, swim, chill out, lunch, swim, playing, film, dinner, bed. Beau’s reading has come on leaps and bounds. Last year we were concerned that he wasn’t ‘getting it’. So we backed off. Now he’s right into it and has ‘got it’. The twins haven’t yet made the leap, but we think it’s more important that they enjoy what they do. Arts and crafts is always a hit. Door hangers was the latest creation.

Yesterday I tried to pull the kids along in the doughnut, but found out that the fuel line connector on the outboard had split. So no outboard until I can get a replacement.

Also managed to get the dinner all over the floor. I’d cooked up a curry and left it in a saucepan. Only left it in the wrong spot and it went flying when the wind stopped and we got a roll on. Luckily, enough stayed in the pan for a meal. Note to self – put the pan on a non-skid.

New country means new flag. Also put up the KB (kids boat) flag we got from s/v Vesna. We waited all this time to put up our  own flags up as our Italian courtesy flag was half worn out and didn’t have another one.

Slovenia has a tiny stretch of coastline, just over 20M. It’s pretty here. We seem to be anchored in a nature reserve and we can hear lots of birds around, which in our experience isn’t typical for the Mediterranean.

We’re off to Piran later today and will probably explore the town. Perhaps then it will feel like we are actually in a new country?
